We all have a desire to create intentional community with our friends, in our neighborhoods, and within our church. But how do we invite our neighbors and friends into our community in a meaningful way? It can be a difficult to navigate, but World Vision’s Global 6k for Water walk/run is an easy invite for your missional community this Spring.

On May 19, 2018, churches, missional communities, and community groups around the world will gather in their own cities on one weekend for the same cause – clean water. World Vision’s Global 6K for Water provides you the opportunity to host your own event as an outreach tool to your local community while making a huge global impact.

Here are 5 benefits the Global 6k for water can bring to your missional community:

1. Outreach to your friends and neighbors

When Elyse launched the Global 6K in 2016, she challenged her church to not just invite someone to the event, but to invite someone who is far from God. Asking them to intentionally reach out to someone who may say no to coming to a service, but yes to coming to an event that benefits children in need.  And it ignited their community to reach out and invite their neighbors, co-workers and friends.

2. Everyone can do it

Everyone in your community can participate in the Global 6k for water. Whether you’re a lightning-fast runner or looking forward to comfortably walking with friends, your community can unite with thousands of people around the world to bring life-changing clean water to communities in need. World Vision works in over 100 countries, and brings clean water to 1 person every 10 seconds.

Walk or run – this outreach tool will help your community turn witnessing aspirations to action!

3. Moving your feet for the poor

6K is the average distance people – usually women and girls – walk to get water for their families and homes in the developing world and hosting a 6K for Water is a fun and easy way to make sure they no longer have to.

4. Grows your community

In Colossians 4:2-6, Paul asked for prayers on his behalf so that God would open doors in reaching the lost and he would empower him to speak the message clearly. Equipping your missional community with the Global 6K as an outreach tool enables you to speak the message clearly – that Christians are concerned with the needs of others, both globally and locally.

On race day, Elyse’s church of 100 members had 200 people walk or run the Global 6K! As people crossed the finish line and rallied to celebrate lives changed they received a special invitation from the head pastor to join them on Sunday and continue the celebration.

Can you imagine your first Sunday at a new church being a day that specifically celebrates and acknowledges you? Celebration Sunday after the 6k is an opportunity to invite all your neighbors to church the next day.

5. Simple and easy to host

A new event can help people be more energized and engaged with others around them. Providing your missional community with new tools and opportunities for evangelism can drastically help them engage in sharing the gospel!
