Verge Network has a passionate and engaged audience of leaders who want to see the Gospel change them, change their communities, change the neighbors and change the world.   Verge Conference was launched in 2010 as a gathering for people engaged in the mission of God with the gospel in their every day context. Our first year we sold out three weeks in advance with more than 2,000 attendees and nearly 3,000 people from 11 countries engaged online via live stream.   The conference prompted Verge Network which champions movements of gospel-centered missional communities and missional leaders by offering timely and topical information, video, interviews, articles and on-going dialog about living on mission, in community, centered around the gospel.   In 2011 Verge partnered with Exponential, the largest church planting conference in the U.S., to equip 4000+ leaders to learn what it means to live out the gospel on mission in community.   Verge is for everyday people and leaders who are pursuing the mission of God with the gospel in their context. Verge leaders and churches are engaged in the mission of God, centered around the gospel, in community, and understand the value of staying connected.   Check out these ways to stay connected and share VERGE with others:

I’d like to read the book because I need to be followers of Jesus, ALL of Jesus. We know a lot of the easy parts of being like Him, but there are a lot of difficult parts we don’t talk or think about. Thanks for the opportunity.

I’m a church planter and if I get it here, I won’t have to go buy it in exchange for food for my kids.

After years in declining Christendom shaped churches, I’m on a passionate mission to see Jesus become the hope and focus of the UK church once more.  The recalibration of the church around Jesus is the hope for our nation.

Not to echo Brad, but I’m also a church planter and would like to read it without sacrificing food. (Also, loving the idea of Jesus wooing people into relationships. Something we are so guilty of missing as church planters, pastors, people)

I am working as a church planter in Bangkok, Thailand and it is hard to come by these resources over here. I am a rookie at all this so any help would go a long way. On a sidenote…… I used to live in Denver! Shout out to the 303!

This year we are really examining how we view ourselves as a church family and how we live sent in the world. This would be a great tool to help us discover the answers to these challenges. TK was a big influence when we planted a couple of years ago and look forward to reading this one. Plus I need free books! Hook a church planter up!

Over the last few months… spiritually I have been in a rut.  Part of it is my job draining… but also I am realizing that I am bored with church, worship, etc. as usual.  I am wore out and need to find new ways to connect with & be Jesus in all areas of my life.

“It is safe to say most Christians do not live like Jesus did, have the same influence on people he had, or draw even the slightest curiosity from the on-looking world.”
When I read the books description I thought… yep, thats right! But then I thought, it shouldn’t be that hard to spark some curiosity in people… what am I missing!

I think it’s possible to have influence like He had, and to spark some curiosity for the on-looking world! As a follower of Jesus and a pastor if I’m not doing this how can I lead people well (I believe part of Jesus genius is His ability to get the wheels turning of those who follow Him) and how can I point the on-looking world to Jesus if they are not sparked by something in me!

I read Hugh and Matt Smay’s book “And” and was blown away.  It articulated so much of what I had been feeling in my own ministry and faith journey.  “Tangible Kingdom” is on my “to read” list and I can only imagine that this book will be as challenging, thought-provoking, and encouraging as the other things that Hugh has written.

More by a collision of circumstances I ended up outside the institutional church, and while I was figuring out what I was going to do next… I realised I never wanted to go back.  My family and our ministry is in the best shape of our lives spiritually.  Somehow we are following Jesus, outside the walls of church while still deeply loving the church and loving being a part of it.  As a unique follower of Christ (more by accident than design I confess), pursuing him on mission where I never thought I would be, I would love to hear what Hugh has to teach and hopefully hear some of his story

As a church planter in Canada I’ve discovered that church doesn’t save anyone and planting churches can not be our goal. It won’t work – especially if what we mean by “church” is a worship service centered community of Christians. No, rather, we need to re-earn the right which we have given away – the right to be called “litte Christs” through our actions and not Christians by our cultural affiliations or birthright.

I work with kids and if you want to change the way followers of Jesus think, you need to start early. Unfortunately, by the time most adults realize who God is and what He means to their life and turn to Him, they’re already so ingrained in the culture of the world that they bring the world to the church, instead of bringing Christ to the world.

I have just started a Missional Community in a county where no new churches have survived in the past 20 years!  The established churches are HOSTILE to anything new and I want a book that will really crawl under their skin.  Well, the Bible does a good job of that too but I would like a little lagniappe.  It is amazing the ingrained religion that goes on here!  Send me “Sacriledge”!  I paid for “The Tangible Kingdom”, “The Tangible Kingdom Primer”, and “And”.  What more do you want from me?

Because AND: Gathered and Scattered made a difference in how we “did church” and making sure it went beyond our walls….and after I read it I can fix my wobbly chair in my office.  Or perhaps with the savings of not having to purchase the book I can buy a chair that doesn’t wobble!

Because all other books suck.  How anyone managed to follow Jesus before Hugh Halter is a mystery that probably never will be solved.  Because these pretzels are making me thirsty.  Because i want to read it aloud in the mall while wearing a monk’s robe.  Because it reminds me of my goldfish.   Because it makes my beard itch.

I am mennonite, and we mennonites, although possessing a history of unorthodoxy (at times, to a fault), have become as lifeless as any. We need sacrilege! … plus, even though Hugh likes MMA (ugh), I appreciate his writings.

Thanks so much to Verge Network and your entire network of leaders.  You have been an incredible resource to me as I have adjusted back in America.  The last 7 yrs I have helped plant and pastor churches among Pacific Islanders in New Zealand and Chinese in Malaysia.  And as our family “re-enter” the US, we are committed to continue to live as missionaries on “home turf” for a change. Every resource, video and book from Verge has been a great help in framing our future mission and context and Hugh Halter’s new book would be a blessing.  Thanks for considering.

Being a follower of Jesus in the Military can be quite a challenge at times.  I am in the United States Air Force, but everyone in my unit finds it quite strange and curious how different I live my life.  In a culture that is quite often immersed in brutality, vulgarity, alcoholism, divorce and various types of bondage, I take every opportunity to share with my fellow Airmen the Gospel of our Lord Jesus.  I tell them about the severity of their sin and their need for a Savior, and how that Savior is the Lord Christ Jesus.  I would love to get this book to help equip me to stay steadfast on my mission to point others in the Air Force to our Lord Jesus and His glorious Gospel.

I am currently in a season where God is transitioning my ministry and stretching me far outside of my comfort zone. I am no longer uncomfortable stepping outside of my comfort zone, however, the places that He is leading me seem to continually require bold confidence in Him as well as a radical display of my faith. Rather than doing ministry in a church setting as I’ve always envisioned it, He seems to be taking me to people, places and situations I never dreamed I would be a part of. This is okay because I’m all about going outside of the “norm” but what I’m finding is that while the majority of the church expects Jesus to be black or white, it is within the grey that Jesus always seemed to step outside of the norm to reach the persons who were the farthest away. Your book sounds like it’s right up that same alley (no pun intended) and since keeping my eyes on Christ is the bottom line for me, I’d really appreciate being to read this perspective. God bless!!!

Oh, how happy and wise, therefore, he is who labors to stand now in the condition in which he would like to be found at the moment of his death. Truly a perfect despising of the world and a fervent desire to advance in virtue, a love to be taught, a fruitful labor in the works of penance, a ready will to obey, a complete forsaking of ourselves, and a willing bearing of all adversities for the love of God-all these shall give us a great trust that we shall die well.

Church culture can often be the obstacle to many young Christians who want to seriously respond to the call of discipleship even as it plays the crutch for “veteran” Christians who become more comfortable with the “church” or “Christian” lifestyle. Sacrilege holds much promise if it helps us discern what is culture and what is Christ.

I need another book on my shelf to remind me why I’m not living missionally…

  • Erin Smith

About a year ago I read The Tangible Kingdom & my life was radically changed. I’d been working full time with a Christian ministry for 9 years but was at a place where I knew God was preparing me for a change, I just didn’t know what. As I read TK, it resonated deeply with my heart and how I wanted to live life & do ministry in a relational context with my peers. I tell anyone who will listen about it! I ended up leaving my job in full time ministry to get a job where I can rub shoulders more with people who don’t yet know Christ. It’s been a huge change, but I know I am exactly where I am supposed to be. I’ve moved to a new city & God lead me to a church that has a vision for living out missional communities. I believe God has called me here specifically to help reach young adults. I would LOVE a copy of Hugh Halter’s book because I believe that God has already used him to speak into my life in significant ways…& I would love to continue to learn from him & see how God might continue to do so. Thanks so much for your ministry & vision!
